Adrenaline Junky's have members of the Oxford University Dangerous Sports Club to thank for the Bungee Jump to become a thing. They took an old Vanuatu ritual of vine jumping, and came up with the idea of jumping from Clifton Suspension Bridge.
They continued even after multiple arrests, including jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge in California, from hot air balloons and cranes.
By 1986, one man would change the world of bungee jumping forever, and make it the commercial draw that it is today. That man was A.J Hackett. A New Zealand Entrepreneur who made a bungee jump from Auckland's Greenhithe Bridge. By 1987 he was on a quest to grow the sport, and did so in style by jumping from the Eiffel Tower. While this did get him imprisoned briefly he had met his goal.
A year later in 1988, the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge in Queenstown became the first public commercially open bungee jump in the world, and and since then there have been more locations added around the world.
